In the late 1940's, the leading rope manufacturer in the U.S., the PLYMOUTH CORDGE COMPANY, (est. 1824), of Plymouth, Massachusetts, purchased a small paper carpet backing manufacturer and relocated it from Petersburg, Virginia to Newport News. The newly acquired company was named PLYMKRAFT.
By the mid 1960’s, New York-based COLUMBIAN ROPE COMPANY purchased PLYMOUTH CORDGE COMPANY and merged its own paper converting department with the PLYMKRAFT DIVISION which quickly become the country’s leading producer of natural and synthetic cable fillers as well as other specialty paper products.
Today the product offering continues to grow.
In 2000 the Columbian Specialty Products Division was established at the PLYMKRAFT plant furthering the long standing tradition of quality cordage production not only for the most demanding commercial applications, but also for specialized U.S. Military, Safety and Rescue, and Marine applications.
Intensive quality assurance and state-of-the-art equipment combine with well-trained, knowledgeable employees, quality materials and pride of workmanship to establish our formula for success.
